Bargaining at Canada Post: Negotiations breakdown, union declares impasse
Our PSAC-UPCE bargaining team has declared impasse after the employer failed to make meaningful progress on key issues at the table.
Impasse means that we have reached a stalemate in negotiations. It also triggers the next step in the collective bargaining process. In this case, it means PSAC-UPCE will be requesting a conciliation process to move negotiations forward.
Despite the bargaining team’s efforts to narrow the issues and move negotiations forward, Canada Post continues to seek concessions.
The employer is seeking a six-year collective agreement without wage increases that keep the pace with what other units have received. They refuse to address the two-tier provisions on wages, the pension plan, vacation, and job security. They have no proposed improvements to the short-term disability plan and refuse to strengthen workplace representation, or update statements of duties.
Our bargaining team is ready to get back to the table. The employer must commit to bargaining in good faith.
